The following are V, or Victory Mails that Joe sent to his parents while in the Solomon Islands !
The "V" stood for Victory. V-Mail was started in 1942 and lasted for 41 months. All letters were microfilmed so that valuable cargo space was not used for mailing letters overseas, only the microfilm was shipped. The originals were letter size sheets. The user wrote the message on a sheet provided, added the name and address of the recipient, folded and added postage. Later at a receiving station, the microfilm copy was developed, and the miniature size printed and delivered to the addressee.
